The so called low GWP refrigerants were and are being developed as environmentally and climate friendly refrigerant variants. With their low GWP (Global Warming Potential) these refrigerants do not or only barely contribute to the global warming.
The EU Parliament’s and EU Council’s directive on the emissions from air conditioning systems in motor vehicles (2006/40/EG) stipulates that, starting 1. January 2011 all new type tested vehicle models and from 1. January 2017 all new vehicles may only contain environmentally friendly refrigerants. According to the EU-directive these new refrigerants may only have a GWP of less than 150.
